At Edge Only we believe in transparency and the ethical production of sustainable fine jewellery. We also believe in open communication and transparency regarding our business.
In this FAQ section we answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

Products

Our jewellery is designed and ethically made in Ireland from 100% recycled silver and gold. Edge Only's home workshop is in Kilkenny. We have highly skilled goldsmiths working with us in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow. Our jewellery is Hallmarked at the Assay Office in Dublin Castle, Ireland.

Web exclusives are items made by our European chain manufacturers (ethically made by high tech robots!) and sold directly to you.

Yes!

We use 100% recycled gold for our fine jewellery. The gold is refined, tested and hallmarked in accordance with its purity 375 (9ct), 585 (14ct), 750 (18ct) by the Assay Office in Dublin Castle, Ireland.

We also use 100% recycled sterling silver grain and eco silver sheet in our designs. We are proud to have made this sustainable choice.

All ring size options on the website are listed according to UK / Irish ring sizes. We typically stock ladies sizes J - S  and Men’s R - Z with some styles going the full range of sizes. If you require a different size we can have a ring made for you in approximately 3 weeks.

Tip: When purchasing a wide ring (or a set of rings) it is typically more comfortable to go up at least one size (as the ring takes up the space of two or three rings). Please see the international ring size chart.

Buy a reusable ring sizer! For just €5 we will post you a mulitisizer ring belt. Multisizers are sent by standard post from Ireland (allow 2-10 days depending on country). You can use them over and over again.

Alternatively you could ask a reputable jeweller to size your finger for you using "leading edge" as the size guide, taking more than one reading (ideally in the afternoon). Most stores will happily do this for free.

Measuring your finger:

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably – snug enough so that it will not fall off and loose enough to slide over your knuckle (some tension over the knuckle is ideal).

Finger size changes depending on the time of day and the weather. For best results measure your finger size at the end of the day and when your fingers are warm (fingers are smaller in the early morning and when cold). Measure more than once to get an accurate reading.

Yes. We do free ring sizing on most styles of newly purchased rings +/- 1 of our stock sizes (*excludes silver comfort fit styles). Rings more that 2 sizes up or down are charged at €30.00. We can make virtually any size you like, with a bit of time. Please email us for custom rings: info@edgeonly.com

Yes. Typically we sell our pendants on an 18"/45cm chain for women and a 20"/50cm chain for men (or longer). Depending on the difference in length, weight or the type of chain your wish to have, there may be an additional charge. Contacts us to find out on info@edgeonly.com

Yes! Our collections are made with sterling silver and recycled 14 carat yellow gold as standard, but if you would like to have 9 carat gold, 18 carat gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum, please let us know.

We can quote to have your special request made in 3-4 weeks (+ delivery).

Please note that platinum and gold prices may be subject to change due to market fluctuation.

Absolutely. We have rings with natural diamonds, sapphires and rubies, but if you have a special request please do not hesitate to get in touch! We have a large range of excellent quality fine gemstones at our fingertips.

Lab grown diamonds are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to mined natural diamonds so if you'd prefer to have your ring set with lab grown diamonds, please get in touch and we will happily give you a revised quote (lab grown diamonds are typically less expensive). info@edgeonly.com

When used in reference to gold, carat is a measure of purity. 24 carat is 100% gold (but it is too soft to wear as jewellery).

In most parts of the world, the terms carat and karat are used interchangeably (in the USA the designation for gold fineness is karat). The weight of gold in jewellery is measured in grams.

All Edge Only jewellery is hallmarked with their carat (fineness).

18 carat gold is 18 parts out of 24 pure gold and 6 parts alloy or 75% pure gold. 18 carat gold is ideal for people with very sensitive ears or skin as it does not cause any allergic skin reactions. It is highly valuable metal with a deep warm yellow colour used in fine jewellery. In Hallmarking the metal and fineness (purity) mark for 18 carat is 750.

14 carat gold is 14 parts gold and 10 parts alloy or 58.5% pure gold. The mark for 14 carat gold is 585. 14ct is a very popular international standard of gold.

9 carat gold is 9 parts out of 24 pure gold and 15 parts alloy or 37.5% gold. The mark for 9 carat gold is 375.

The addition of other metals (alloys) to gold are used to increase the toughness and hardness of the metal as well as to change the colour i.e. white gold and rose gold and also to lessen expense with lower carat gold items. 

Our 9, 14 and 18 carat gold pieces are ethically made from recycled gold.

A hallmark is a guarantee of metal purity.

Hallmarking is a system that originated in London at Goldsmiths’ Hall in the 14th century. In the UK and in Ireland there are three compulsory hallmarks applied to precious metals as a quality control: a sponsor’s (maker’s) mark, a fineness mark, and an assay office mark. These marks establish the origin and fineness of the precious metal and ensures it has been accurately and independently tested (assayed.)

In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission does not require a gold fineness stamp; however, if one is used, it must be accompanied by the manufacturer’s mark.

At Edge Only we only use solid sterling silver and solid carat gold, hallmarked in accordance with Irish law. Our Gold Vermeil is hallmarked sterling silver plated in 18 - 24 carat gold.  We do NOT use gold plate, rolled gold or goldfill.

Gold vermeil (pronounced vur-may) is sterling silver that has been gold plated. Sometimes referred to as gilded silver or gilt, vermeil is made using the process of electrolysis — electricity and an acid bath — to attach the gold to sterling. Countries vary on the number of microns of plating for the classification "Vermeil" but typically it is 2 or 3 microns of gold.

To be considered vermeil, the gold should be at least 10 carat and be at least 1.5 micrometers thick (at Edge Only we use 18 carat gold). 

Vermeil differs from gold plating in that the base metal in vermeil is sterling silver (gold plating is generally used on inexpensive base metals like brass). The layer of gold is thicker than that applied using the electroplating process for gold plate. It is hallmarked with 925 for sterling silver. 

Please note that as it is a surface treatment, gold plating will naturally fade with wear. If you want your design to last forever invest in carat gold. For more see: Tips For Buying Gold

Rhodium is from the Platinum family of precious metals. It gives a transparent shiny black veil to silver resulting in a cool, gun-metal grey colour. As with all plating it will gradually fade with wear.

No. Because screens vary in size, it is next to impossible to show an actual size image on the Internet. We do provide measurements where appropriate and try our very best to have each design photographed on a model for scale. We also provide gold and platinum weights.

Purchasing

We accept payment online by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Maestro, Shop Pay and Google Pay as well as Buy Now, Pay Later with Klarna. In addition, you can also pay for your order using One4All Gift Cards.

*Please note you may have to enter a name when you type in your One4All gift card as you would on a VISA - we suggest either your own name or: One All (without the number).

Our payments are processed through Shopify Payments powered by Stripe.

Skip the express checkout option and continue to shipping. After shipping you can submit your credit card details in payments.

Gift cards are available in a wide variety of denominations and may be redeemed at any time for 5 years. Gift cards are immediately delivered to you by email and contain instructions to redeem them at checkout. A beautifully packaged gift card will follow in the post. 

Each gift card has a unique code number, which can be redeemed against any purchase on the website. Please email us at info@edgeonly.com should you have any further questions about using your gift card.

This error message appears when there is a discrepancy between the billing address you have provided and the address linked to your payment method (bank that has issued your card).

If you have recently moved, for example, this information may be out of date.

If in Ireland, check that your bank has your eircode.

Make any changes to ensure both match identically and try placing the order again. It should go through for you!

One4All Cards

One4All cards have digits on the back just like a credit card  - simply input these at checkout the way you would a Visa credit / Visa debit card. Enter your name when you type in your One4All gift card as you would on a VISA. Use your own name and address for Billing Details.

Remember, use your One4all Gift Card as a prepaid Visa Debit Card. Do not choose ‘Gift Voucher’ or ‘Gift Card’ at checkout

Please note you have to activate One4all Chip & PIN Gift Cards before use.

When One4All cards won't work for you, it's often due to it being for a transaction above €50.

For security reasons, regular One4All have a limit of €50 per transaction for web purchases.

If you'd like to use a One4All that's a higher value, use the One4All to purchase Edge Only Gift Cards

For example, if you have a One4All that is €100, you can purchase 2 of our €50 Gift Cards (albeit in separate transactions) and then use these Gift Cards against your basket on our website.

Packaging

Your order is packaged in our custom Edge Only jewellery boxes. Edge Only jewellery boxes are light-weight luxury. They are black, grained paper with black gloss foil writing and have a plush black velvet foam insert. 

Silver purchases come with a complimentary Edge Only silver polishing cloth and care instructions. They are shipped in recyclable kraft FSC certified padded envelopes.

We work with a climate neutral packaging company that use only environmentally friendly water based inks in the production of our gift and tissue papers and completely avoid the use of harmful solvents - for the sake of the environment and their employees. 

We don't currently offer a gift wrapping service (the bows get squashed in the post!) but each order is beautifully packaged in tissue and includes care instructions, postcard and a complimentary branded silver polishing cloth for all silver orders. We also include one of our custom Leah Hewson for Edge Only black and neon luxury kraft paper gift bags.

Click & Collect

We are delighted to be offering Click & Collect from our office in Dublin 8, Ireland. Simply place your order as normal (the day prior to collection or before 10am same day) and select Pick up as Delivery Method in the check out. After your order is packaged and ready for collection you will be sent an email 😊 

PLEASE NOTE: Click & Collect orders must be collected within 7 working days. We cannot quarantee their security longer than this due to the volume of packages. Packages might get lost.

We recommend DHL Express Worldwide for a speedy door to door tracked service.

For those choosing our Standard Post, the An Post tracking code provided will only work within Ireland to the delivery hub. We use An Post Express mail as standard (free shipping with all purchases over €150). Packages are sent daily Monday through Friday. Click here for a list of international postal carriers to track your order after it leaves Ireland.

We also offer a fully tracked express courier service via DHL Express Worldwide for an additional charge.

Stocked items are dispatched within 48 hours Monday to Friday unless otherwise stated (special orders and custom gold orders). Delivery times will vary depending on the destination and time of year (do allow longer at Christmas/ and periods of increased demand such as the current COVID-19 pandemic). Yes. As you complete the checkout process you will be given the opportunity to enter your billing and delivery addresses, if different. Choose an address where you (or someone you trust) can sign for your registered package.

If you are buying a gift for someone you may prefer to give them an Edge Only Gift Card, redeemable for an entire year.

Yes. Unless one of your items is a custom order, in which case it will be sent separately after your bespoke piece has been created for you.

Returns and Exchanges

RETURNS FOR 30 DAYS

We offer a hassle free, 30-day exchange or refund on unworn pieces.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Please note that engraved items cannot be returned or exchanged. 

Please clearly mark on your package: "RETURN" to be exempt from export tax and to avoid the return being held at customs. Include the original order tracking number "Original tracking:___"

We take pride in the quality of our jewellery and guarantee our products to be free from faults in craftsmanship. In the unlikely event that an Edge Only piece does not meet your (or our) high standards upon delivery, we will do our utmost to resolve the issue through repair or replacement. Please get in touch before the end of the 30 day return period.

Please note that our jewellery is hand finished and minor variations are to be expected. They are not faults.

Yes. We are happy to re-plate your rhodium or gold vermeil designs when you feel they need them.

Most designs will be re-plated in 18 carat gold and sent back by express post from just €30.00 (large designs and necklaces from 50.00).

Personalise

Yes! We are happy to help you with any special engraving requests from initials to romantic messages to wedding dates.

We offer a custom hand engraving service done by master engravers starting at just €25 for initials.

Hand engraving is a deep lasting cut (not recommended for 18ct Gold Vermeil).

Please note that custom engraved items may not be returned.

Engraving usually takes two weeks. Hand engraving is a master craft done with hand tools that skilfully removes the metal for a deep, bright cut and lasting finish. After the engraving is ready your order will be polished and shipped to you. 

 Yes! We create custom designs based around the Edge Only aesthetic. You can choose your preferred metal and stones with all of our designs.
